Well here we are in New York! We’ve been SO busy with pre-production, tech rehearsal, marketing/promo, and started performances on Thursday … but we finally had a day off yesterday, and … I kept working. That’s right:
I flyered Matt Damon last night. Yup. I was so nervous! But it was great. He was so gentle, and kind. He treated me so nicely … That’s right: “I’m FlyerIN’ Matt Damon!” Eat that Sarah Silverman. … So I’m at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade last night seeing their free Sunday night comedy show, and Matt Damon is in the audience! Beany cap, beer in hand, Boston simplicity and humulity. (Backstory: Medina and I have always wanted to get our screenplay of Any Night to Matt & Ben, because with the film version, we’re essentially trying to follow Good Will Hunting’s footsteps.) So I phone Medina at the intermission to work up my nerve to flyer Matt Damon. She says DO IT! So after the show, I do. I work up my nerve, calm my breath, and go over to him as he’s leaving and calmly hand him the flyer for Any Night and say: “Dude, I’d love you to see my show, I co-wrote it and act in it” — Matt Damon (taking the flyer): “Okay man.” I continue, “We’re down from Canada, playing Off-Broadway, you’ve been a great inspiration, and I’d love you to see it…” And he nods, says, “Okay, thanks man.” And disappears into the night. It was obviously very quick, but he had a nice and kind demeanor. A quick in and out, nerve-wracking but felt good. FlyerIN’ Matt Damon. What a city, what a city we’re in …
